Sacred Setting in the Bighorn Mountains
The Medicine Wheel is a sacred place in the Bighorn Mountains, used in ceremonies by Native Americans for hundreds of years.
It has been a place for coming of age rituals, and also where healing prayers are offered. The structure its self consists of a circular outer rim and inner spokes, all made of stone gathered from the surrounding region. The Medicine Wheel’s alignment also helped Native Americans to determine the summer solstice. The Medicine wheel represents harmony and connection in Native American culture. It is a symbol of peaceful interaction among all living beings on Earth. In 1970, the site was declared a National Historic Landmark, and it is still used in ceremonies by Native Americans today. You can easily visit the Medicine Wheel, as it is only 2 miles from the Wyoming High Country Lodge.
